
Shaping the Future of Sustainable Food Education
The Horizon Europe FEAST project invites teachers in education students, early-career educators, and academic partners to the inaugural FEAST Summer School, taking place September 1–4, 2025 at Karlshöhe Ludwigsburg in Germany.
Titled “Food Systems in School Education,” this free, four-day immersive learning program is designed to help future educators integrate topics like food literacy, sustainability, health, and food policy into classroom practice. Participants will gain practical tools, collaborate across disciplines, and explore innovative strategies to support food systems transformation through education.
Through a mix of expert-led sessions, in the fields of public health, behaviour change, agriculture, health policy from the Roskilde University, University Hohenheim, SUSMETRO, Sciensano, EuroHealthnet , opendot and os4os, connected with interactive workshops, and real-world applications, participants will:
• Explore interdisciplinary topics including food insecurity, behaviour change, and food systems thinking
• Develop tailored Open Educational Resources (OER) for use in their own teaching
• Engage with experts from public health, agriculture, psychology, and education
• Strengthen skills in curriculum design, systems thinking, and sustainability education
Programme overview:
Day 1: Systems thinking, problem framing, real-world context
Day 2: Production systems, climate and spatial planning
Day 3: Built environments, behavioural influence, policy impact
Day 4: Reflection, application, curriculum integration, educational strategy
The FEAST Summer School offers a unique extension to university-level teacher education programs and supports the goals of education for sustainable development (ESD). It encourages future educators to become agents of change in their classrooms and communities.
